Sunday Thoughts Posted Monday Morning

Picture just for cuteness. |
I had a nice weekend, just a little bit of a few things. My niece held a terrific party for her daughters graduation. Nice food and drink, good company, and even with the haze due to Canadian fires, perfect weather. I was a bit lazy housework wise on Saturday so today tried to get things done (Sunday.) I'm still trying to get to the raspberries, but even 9:30 a.m. is too late as the buzzing is annoying, so I will go back to after 8:00 p.m. even though I picked nearly four cups this morning, the sun and warmth ripened more during the day. There's still more and more to ripen! I thought I was getting a walk in before it got hot, but the last mile I was dripping. I avoided getting the men's Wimbledon final as I wanted to watch the free replay on ABC later as I don't get ESPN+ to watch live, but lost track of time and missed a good match. I followed the women's a bit by phone on Saturday, but did not watch the 6-0, 6-0 match. Yikes
Other than getting some basic housework done, I just puttered around doing stuff inside and out. I did some trip research for both now booked trips. My kids were very pleased I'm doing both and have sent texts or dropped ideas my way.
The Christian Ed Director really struggled with volunteers for Vacation Bible school, so I signed up to be snack station leader this week. I figured that's the session even the bouncier kids will be well mannered at as kids' love their snacks, right? I need to be at church at 8:30, though I'll just have the three groups circulate starting about 9:30 to my station. It wraps up at 11:30. There's a short little lesson, bible verse, and prayer that goes with each day's snack. My printer is out of ink so I'm just going to bring my laptop to use as reference. It's just Monday-Wednesday, so not a big commitment. I really like the director and happy to help her out.
Thanks for the nice comments on the post about travel. It turns out my UK travel host and companion Siobhan is in sync with my wanderlust and she's meeting me in Athens. That's about it for the weekend.
How fun that Siobhan will be joining you! I just had a conversation with my beloved birthday girl coworker that we celebrated yesterday…she’s a widow who works three jobs to stay busy and has a plan to retire from 2/3 jobs, get an RV and dog and start traveling the US within two years. I hope she does :) I’m jealous of your raspberry bushes. We had lots of grapes and berries growing up but not enough land here for those things. JoAnn
ReplyDeleteThe picking tonight was more difficult. Very buggy and smaller berries. I think the bush itself is getting too big now, but there's still tons on there to ripen. It was just kizmet that Greece works for her too.
DeleteFUN!!!!!!!!! to have a fellow Greece travel buddy :-)
ReplyDeleteIcing on the baklava.
DeleteWhat a gorgeous header photo.
ReplyDeleteThat's fantastic that you're meeting Siobhan in Athens, its such a friendly and relaxed place - just like the islands, - I know you'll love it!
Your raspberry crop puts mine to shame. I'm noy a fan of tennis but I'm obsesed with the Euros. Go Lionesses! xxx
Little Miss loves crawling in that big bag that I use to bring my laundry up and down. She gives into it. I was pouring over your trip posts. The tortoises...had completely forgot. The picking is harder now as it's been so hot and buggy, but still loads of unripe berries to come.
DeleteOh, VBS snack station person sounds fun. I did realize the Canadian fires were still going on, it’s been weeks of it now. I hope they can get them under control soon.
ReplyDeleteThe haze is still coming. They might be more controlled but still producing smoke.
DeleteA two-day volunteer commitment sounds perfect, and the snack station is where everyone is happy (:
ReplyDeleteThree days actually, big schedule lol. It's Pre-K to 4th graders, and a smallish group this year. It was fun yesterday.
DeleteAdorable kitty, and fun volunteering plans! Jealous of your raspberries - one of my favorites. How awesome that you will have a travel buddy in Greece. Nick & his tennis teammates call that score getting "bagel-ed" (the zeros are bagels, apparently). They are always happy when they are playing a really incredible opponent, and you avoid the dreaded "bagel". ;-) - Hawaii Planner
ReplyDeleteSweet kitty face!
ReplyDeleteLots of memories of VBS; it used to last all day for a week when I was a kid. Now it seems like several churches have to go in together to have enough kids and volunteers for only a few days. I'm sure the director really appreciates you helping out with the snack station, and I'm sure the kids will enjoy snacks.
Yay for Greece and Siobhan!
