Monday Thoughts on the Week Ahead and Behind
I was worrying with Siobhan on Sunday about her dear sweet kitty. He wasn't eating and drinking. She says he feels better and vet found no issues. We love our pets like family. They're with us with our sadness, give love in our joy so I'm happy for her and him he's more himself. I'm writing this as I have grandpup at my feet, Little Miss purring from her tree, and pup snoring alongside me on his floor pillow. Today's is officially Little Miss's Gotcha Day! She had some Churu last night and will get the rest today. Two years ago the closest thing I had to cats was feeding my sister's and the wandering neighborhood cats. Now, there's three in my family.

Saturday, changing the channel as she didn't want soccer on the TV. |

The day after she joined us, weighing just under 4 pounds, but already the boss. |
The week ahead looks more my speed, but also busy. I think my sister and I are going to see Downton Abbey tomorrow night at Tuesday night prices and complimentary popcorn for rewards members. Thursday is the AAUW big fundraiser dinner. Friday I'm attending my great nieces soccer game. Summer weather stays another week it seems so I'll be outside with the dogs a lot. The big guy needs his walk soon as it's going to get hot.
Speaking of hot, the party room AC was not keeping up with the great turnout for MILs birthday. Now, I'm sure a few nephews had several pieces of cake, but of the 1 full and 1 half sheet cake, only about 10 slices remained. We had a small decorated and "engraved" round used as decoration and for her to have at home as she has her sister's staying with her for several days, and a couple friends visiting that couldn't attend yesterday. She enjoyed the party very much. I'm sure she's exhausted today, but she stayed on her feet, barely using her walker or walker seat for hours as people came, hugged, and took pictures. My son finally got her to eat two hours into the party, after it seemed the peak was done and early arrivals had left and we weren't really expecting new guests since the party ended at 3:00. I had a few nice catch-ups with family friends and extended relatives, a few awkward ones, but those were nipped short. I kept busy bringing cake around, which helped me be sociable but not trapped. My girls laughed as they caught on to my plan, as they saw me politely move on quickly from an intrusive busy body.
My kids were troopers, being polite and friendly in spite of their own awkward conversations. I know my kids look younger than their ages, but asking when my son will graduate (he's been out of both colleges since 2014), asking youngest if she drives yet, and confusing my older daughter for one of my BILs kids ( he was just 16 when she was born) was funny.
I think I've shared that I really like my husband's aunts, particularly the two youngest who were just 6 and 8 years older than him. One had taken up a hobby of using her new iPhone for pictures ( her description) and took a lovely one of my kids and me. I think it's our first with just the four of us. She was just tickled it turned out so well and will be sending it on. I want to take more pictures with my little family; while I'd love it to grow, we have each other for now.
Have a good Monday!
Your birthday party hostess plan sounds brilliant! I love that phrase "we have each other for now". (:
ReplyDeleteI like my kids. They're my kind of people
DeleteHappy gotcha day to you and your feline friend. Fur friends are the BEST! Binx was just under 4 pounds when we adopted him. I can't believe that was almost 3 and a half years ago.
ReplyDeleteGlad things went well at your MIL birthday party. Extended family dynamics can be a bit crazy sometimes. Have a great week.
I was looking at her kitten pics on first day. She was a dusty little thing, but she had food, water, ear mite treatment developed the silkiest fur I've ever experienced with an animal.
DeleteDelighted that the MIL birthday celebration went well and is now over. Hope your upcoming week is satisfying!
ReplyDeleteI'm delighted it's done too. I realized I should not need to ever participate in a big event like that other than as a guest. I can't see her thinking something like this again if she makes it to 90 or 95, entirely likely as she's healthy and her parents lived long lives.
DeleteSweet kitty pic! Glad she found a good home.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice birthday celebration for your mil, and I'm sure that she appreciated it. Great idea to serve the cake so that you weren't held up by the busy bodies. :)
I had to smile and nod , and say excuse me a lot.
DeleteThat's great that the party went well and you found a way to stay busy so no time to engage much with prying busy bodies. Your kids will be pleased that they look younger when they're older! Glad your fur babies found such a loving home.
ReplyDeleteI think the kids were a bit annoyed more so because it felt a bit dismissive, but we had a laugh.
DeleteMilo and I thank you for the love this weekend - it’s such a worry when they are not feeling ok
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you and your kids rose magnificently to the occasion this weekend - bravo to all of you .
And I know how difficult that first picture of 4 must have been - but wonderful that Scott’s Aunt did that and shared it with you . You are all his legacy
Siobhan x
I'm still waiting for it, so will need to maybe remind her. I'm so glad Milo is better.
DeleteI want to see Downton Abby too! Let us know if you see it and what you thought of it.
ReplyDeleteWe have tickets ready for tonight.
DeleteThat was a clever ploy to keep moving! I am glad the party was a success. When I was 22 and mother of one, people did not believe I was older than 15, and that continues. It works now. I am no longer insulted...lol.
ReplyDeleteYou must have good genes, but folks still think you're 15? Lol, just kidding.
DeleteThat sounds like a lovely party. I'm sure your MIL was thrilled. You made me laugh about your kids being asked when they will graduate though. When I came back to work in Switzerland in 1989 I asked a colleague what she did to occupy her son during the summer holidays. She said "nothing, he's 21"! I guess I'm turning into one of the old biddies then!
ReplyDeleteThose were less busy body just funny and delusional as clearly they do not look a decade younger each. No, the busy bodies and I kid you not...are you dating? Why are your kids not married? I suppose you'll not have a big party for your 85th with four generations... It truly amazes me what comes out people's mouths in 15 second interactions.
DeleteYikes - some people can be so crass!
DeleteGenius plan for being social but not getting caught up with nosy/negative Nancys. Well done. - Hawaii Planner
ReplyDeleteMy first inclination was when I was asked by pretty much a stranger ( recall the name, but wouldn't have known them from a peach) if I was dating again. Saying, oh I better get some cake out, was a quick get away.
DeleteINB here...Oh Sam before I married which was late by Montana standards, large family parties made me cringe as I always heard the whispers (why is she not married) I too made the rounds and brief chats! Glad the party was a success.
ReplyDeleteMy kids sure get noises. I also went to a old neighborhood picnic. Woah did one woman into a rude judgemental b*-_$! I quote, "Three kids and not a single grandchild? " Upon hearing the ages of my kids, " You sure didn't plan your family right with that big gap." To my sister, " so your son still hasn't figured out life yet at 32?" To my old childhood friend, " Two marriages and just the one daughter and no grandkids? Bet you didn't expect that..."
