Monday Thoughts on the Week Ahead and Behind

I was worrying with Siobhan on Sunday about her dear sweet kitty. He wasn't eating and drinking. She says he feels better and vet found no issues. We love our pets like family. They're with us with our sadness, give love in our joy so I'm happy for her and him he's more himself. I'm writing this as I have grandpup at my feet, Little Miss purring from her tree, and pup snoring alongside me on his floor pillow. Today's is officially Little Miss's Gotcha Day! She had some Churu last night and will get the rest today. Two years ago the closest thing I had to cats was feeding my sister's and the wandering neighborhood cats. Now, there's three in my family.

Saturday, changing the channel as she didn't want soccer on the TV.

The day after she joined us, weighing just under 4 pounds, but already the boss.

The week ahead looks more my speed, but also busy. I think my sister and I are going to see Downton Abbey tomorrow night at Tuesday night prices and complimentary popcorn for rewards members. Thursday is the AAUW big fundraiser dinner. Friday I'm attending my great nieces soccer game. Summer weather stays another week it seems so I'll be outside with the dogs a lot. The big guy needs his walk soon as it's going to get hot.

Speaking of hot, the party room AC was not keeping up with the great turnout for MILs birthday. Now, I'm sure a few nephews had several pieces of cake, but of the 1 full and 1 half sheet cake, only about 10 slices remained. We had a small decorated and "engraved" round used as decoration and for her to have at home as she has her sister's staying with her for several days, and a couple friends visiting that couldn't attend yesterday. She enjoyed the party very much. I'm sure she's exhausted today, but she stayed on her feet, barely using her walker or walker seat for hours as people came, hugged, and took pictures. My son finally got her to eat two hours into the party, after it seemed the peak was done and early arrivals had left and we weren't really expecting new guests since the party ended at 3:00. I had a few nice catch-ups with family friends and extended relatives, a few awkward ones, but those were nipped short. I kept busy bringing cake around, which helped me be sociable but not trapped. My girls laughed as they caught on to my plan, as they saw me politely move on quickly from an intrusive busy body.

My kids were troopers, being polite and friendly in spite of their own awkward conversations. I know my kids look younger than their ages, but asking when my son will graduate (he's been out of both colleges since 2014), asking youngest if she drives yet, and confusing my older daughter for one of my BILs kids ( he was just 16 when she was born) was funny.

I think I've shared that I really like my husband's aunts, particularly the two youngest who were just 6 and 8 years older than him. One had taken up a hobby of using her new iPhone for pictures ( her description) and took a lovely one of my kids and me. I think it's our first with just the four of us. She was just tickled it turned out so well and will be sending it on. I want to take more pictures with my little family; while I'd love it to grow, we have each other for now.

     Have a good Monday!

  1. Your birthday party hostess plan sounds brilliant! I love that phrase "we have each other for now". (:

  2. Happy gotcha day to you and your feline friend. Fur friends are the BEST! Binx was just under 4 pounds when we adopted him. I can't believe that was almost 3 and a half years ago.
Glad things went well at your MIL birthday party. Extended family dynamics can be a bit crazy sometimes. Have a great week.
