Wednesday Wellness Check July 23, 2025

Short post to hold myself accountable. Nothing, 0, zilch lost in weight since last week. In fact, the scale crept up a bit. Now granted, yesterday I had ham for dinner and feel like I might be carrying water weight due to salt. I think I'm going to need to do daily weigh ins so I can truly see the impact on food and exercise (lack of) choices.

It was sweltering yesterday and I didn't get near the amount of walking in as normal. Grandpup was at doggie daycare so no extra long walks required, which would have helped offset the salty meal. I can't give myself days off just because it's hot. Even if water weight, the scale still was disappointing and likely no progress. Thanks for being accountability listeners. New day today.

  1. Yes, today is a new day. Ham does the same thing to me or Chinese food too with the soy sauce. Consistency is key here, and doing something everyday, like you're doing, is what works.

    1. I'm not being consistent though I know that's the best to see progress.

  2. Pat yourself on the back for the consistency, even if it didn't budge the scales reading.

    1. But I was not consistent so there's my focus to improve.

  3. I love ham... I have regained some of the weight I lost but it's a marathon, not a sprint. Sometimes I pat my big ol' booty and say you know what, ya look good, LOL.

    2. I disagree!!! You are going forward!

  4. Sadly, I've found I need to stop eating by 2pm, 3 at the latest. Any day I eat even the healthiest meal later, I am up 1-3#. I've heard this from other woman over 60 as well. Also, 90+ grams of protein daily which is challenging.

    1. Ugh, anon again. Came back to say I have lost 65# in 3.5 years. Slow but sure wins!

    2. I do so well, then snacks get me! Good for you.

  5. I’m a big walker/slow jogger and I really don’t like exercise. A few years back I got a good quality treadmill and put a tv on the wall in front of it. Now I’d much rather be outside but on days where the weather just doesn’t allow for it or I need more of a cushioning walk I use my treadmill. I turn on a tv show that hopefully makes my time fly by. Right now I’m watching The Hunting Wives on Netflix. An episode a session. Treadmill can be so monotonous but it has definitely kept me accountable when I can’t get out because it’s too hot or too cold or too icy etc. ColoradoGirl

    1. There's loads of other things I can do besides walk, but you've got a good idea. I have no room for a treadmill right now.

  6. I am glad it is hot only because I love to swim. Even when I think I can't do another lap it still does not feel like exercise.

    1. Swimming is the best. I've got poor options for that each day.

  7. You most certainly can give yourself a day off because it's too hot (or at least in my book of rules and regulations)! On a sidenote, my niece is in Athens at the moment. It's 39°C (102°F)!!! She always researches everything about her trips and looks up the history so I might nick some of her pictures off FB (with her permission) and send them to you!

    1. We did Paris in August and that was his. It will be good walking weather in March.

  8. I usually walk four miles every day - until last month when I developed Achilles tendonitis (self-diagnosed, but I have lump on top of my ankle and walking is very painful). Luckily it's summer and like Anne, I can swim laps in our pool. Our sons gave us Shokz underwater headphones a few years ago and they're a game changer (I used to sing "a hundred bottles of beer on the wall" while I swam) - plus my AppleWatch counts my laps.

    1. A pool would be ideal but we have a short summer to use. I have thought about those annual set up pools, but seems a lot of effort and expense. Walking them a swim would suit me.

  9. Try doing body measurements with a tape measure once a week. It's a better indicator of weight loss than stepping on the scale daily. Do hips, waist, arms and thighs. It's fun to see inches lost too.

  10. You are more than a number on the scale!!!
When I feel I am not following good eating patterns, I try to schedule my meals, no snacking. Dinner is always a set table, sit down affair even if it’s just DH and me. But if I feel I am in a bad eating pattern, I endeavor to do the same for breakfast (usually toast or yogurt with homemade granola) and lunch and sit with DH. Then I don’t snack. Funny thing though, I never have been one to eat a big lunch, but if I prepare a simple lunch, and sit with DH and drink some water and maybe eat the crackers and cheese I served with his soup, (I can’t bear most soups) or half a sandwich, then I don’t snack. When I skip breakfast and lunch (usually due to getting distracted) I wind up snacking around 2 (ish) and find I consume more calories than if I just sat and ate!
I see your region is having some hot weather! We are low 80’s day, high 50’s night, but very, very dry. My job today is to head over to the farmhouse and pick the plums. They’re ripe, and why wouldn’t they be, on the hottest day of the month?
