Another Needs and Wants Check In and Update

Back in March I wrote up my needs and wants list, then in April, updated where I was with things. It's been a while and the life that was in theory is now the present so am taking a look again.

  1. Spending money for Memphis in June.*-Done by taking two full and 1 half sub job in April and May
  2. Spending money for the UK November.* In one of Belinda's posts she did a recap of her garage sales. I have a possible idea to hold a garage sale by summers end, but likely I'll just donate. Possible though.
  3. Repayment of property tax rebate overage -Done
  4. Replace side mirror on my small SUV -Done
  5. Black dirt to fill dog holes and low dips, grass seed, and fertilizer for back yard
  6. Black dirt/ garden soil for raised beds, Vegetable seeds and starters
  7.  Replace my queen and the full mattress my son uses- moved these two up and will take care of this spring summer
  8. 5 c chest freezer ( the size I got my daughter is perfect). This was back at the price I bought my daughter's for in December.
  9. 2nd battery for mower so can be done in one outing without recharging-I decided when doing other yard stuff that this was a higher need to be more efficient this spring, summer, and fall so I purchased as likely the cost will be increasing. Ugh, th eorignal battery died and I ende dup having to buy a back up for the back up!
  10. Enclosed wood fireplace or chimenea-this too is deferred with no timeline. I measured and there is more than enough space if we want to move the old fire ring to the swoopy part of the rocks. It was so dry this spring it was not top of mind but if summer and fall get adequate rain, having the fire option by mid August as the nights get cooler and sun goes down earlier is some of my favorite ways to spend time in Minnesota.
  11. Edging bricks for rock garden area in back- Still a yellow and will stay yellow. I got some free bricks that were used for creating a pumpkin and squash area. I haven't even started the border project and quite frankly, it's way down on my list of where I want to spend my time.
  12. More hostas for north side of house and mail box. I put free along the patio. I still will do the North side of house but likely next spring when I think my garage side out.
  13. Piano tuning-pause, but hopefully by Christmas
  14. Faux brick and installation for fireplace
  15. New mattress for the day bed, replace other with full or queen frame to replace one of the twins.
  16. New flooring (carpet, hardwood, LVP, not decided) for upper bedrooms and hallway- Deferring this indefinitely.
*My Memphis budget is modest, but breakfast is covered each day and other than perhaps some good BBQ dry rubs, do not plan on brining any souvenirs home. Graceland is ridiculously expensive but I just have to go there and the restaurant we've selected for sister's bday/ thank you for the hotel room, is going to be at least 1/3 of my spending money. *I have just over $1,000 in rewards dollars on the Visa card already aimed towards the November trip as a start, but won't have a good sense of the UK spending budget until after Siobhan and I do a bit better planning. She said she can help me keep to a budget, though I want that budget to be adequate to truly enjoy what the country has to offer including country estate houses, English teas, museums, and theater. Modest accommodations in London and our overnight trips to Devon, the Cotswold's, and Cornwall (I think those are where we landed on if my geography naming is right) are fine, but we want safe and comfortable.

Comments

  1. The British Museum is free to visit. If you are going to visit a lot of country houses, I believe that Americans can join the Royal Osl Society of the National Trust. May be worth it depending on individual entrance fees. If you will spend any time in London, the Church of St. Martin in the Fields had really nice free afternoon concerts sometimes and good cheap food in their basement crypt.

    1. I've looked into the Royal Oaks and as we plan I think that will help budget planning.

  2. We enjoyed the Tate Modern and entrance to the collection is free although exhibitions have a fee. It also gives you a different view of London if you walk across a bridge and along the Thames on that side. So much to see and do.

  7. I'm really in awe of you keeping such a great check list! Well done for being so oragnised.
England can definitely be done on a budget, depending on what you plan to do and where you're going. There are free entries into some museums and such. Meals (I find) are fairly cheap depending on what you like.

    1. I'm a pretty basic gal food wise. I mostly want to meet and spend time soaking up the culture and community. Meeting Siobhan in person will be the highlight.

  8. Bourton-on-the-Water is a must in the Cotswolds (but I'm sure Siobhan knows everywhere she wants to take you). Can't wait to see your pictures. With the dollar apparently dropping right now, keep an eye on the exchange rate to see if it goes up between now and then, just to buy a few ££££!

    1. Not a bad idea, but with TACO, Cheeto, whatever the best description is for the blue hard in the president role making assinine day to day choices, who knows what fall will look like.
