Friday Fiscal Wellness Check December 6, 2024

This is a second post for myself today mostly to keep myself accountable on my financial house. This is my summary from Friday November 29 to Thursday, December 5th.

Avoiding Spending/ Saving on Needs

  • Grocery and household buying was only on necessities we ran out of ( as noted this morning.)
  • Used gift card and freebie voucher...see below...to offset costs for a dinner out
  • Dropped dinner off for my daughter on route to another meetup. It was a chili Mac and cheese made with scrounged use them up items. I worry she doesn't eat well and has been struggling this week with her anxiety and depression. Since I was close, it worked out really well. She had soccer so was going to eat it later. I haven't heard the verdict yet, but it's cheese, macaroni, and chili so can't go wrong, right? ( She just texted back that it was good.)

Spent Intentionally

  • I took two of my kids out to Green Mill when we did a bit of shopping later Friday. Used a free birthday small pizza coupon and a gift card to cover more than 1/2 the bill. We ate leftovers the next day...a lot of them.
  • I had a lovely brunch out with a former colleague who recruited me to my job, actually the job I originally had before it expanded from a coordinator of my program to fully managing the program and staff.
  • Had dinner with another friend, long overdue catch-up. She insisted on picking up tab, but that just means I get to schedule another date to treat her. Putting in this line as a future intentional spend.

Opportunities to add Funds/Windfalls

  • I paid all bills and was able to do a substantial sinking fund and emergency fund deposits
  • Received another $4 CVS coupon on anything. I typically do not shop there but if they want to send me free money, I'll use for basics like toothbrushes, feminine products, and snacks.

Then, there are often other things that impacted my check book that came up without much planning or notice, an all out splurge.

  • The cat Christmas tree tower from Wayfair arrived and so did the charge to my credit card. ( Picture to come if I can get Little Miss to hold still)
That was about it. I did a bit of Christmas shopping and feel I'm getting gifts that will be enjoyed or appreciated and within my budget. I'm off any moment with  my sister to meet my niece for a Christmas service and dessert reception. We're getting Mexican food first and I am intentionally picking up the tab. I will be faster than my sister this year. This is why the theme from my post from the morning is important to me. I want to enjoy the special things with the people I love and not worry later about an expense.
