A Little Checked Out Tuesday

      We've got more curve balls and rocky roads ahead as a family. I'm in knots about so many things. I'm plugging away at house things, anything I can do that feels like a little bit in my control, a little order. It's the plates of unknowns and chaos the four of us have spinning that feel precariously unbalanced, ready to crash one or all at any time. I hope my kids each catch a break at some point. I know I can't live through their success and happiness. But, it's sure hard to see the challenges and be of no help, other than a soft space for their plates to land. Maybe they'll just crack instead of smash. After all, cracks are where the light gets in, right?

    Thinking of you all, feeling similar knots for various reasons myself. You and your kids have each other, and the soft space you provide for them to crash is amazing.

    Cracks are indeed where the light gets in, but so does the rain. May it only be a sprinkle and all of you move into the light.

    I don’t know if Mercury is in the microwave again or what, but it seems like life is strange and challenging for so many people I know right now. Health stuff, job stuff, moving, more questions than answers. Sending grace and hugs and patience to you and yours. JoAnn

Testing the Waters

        I've missed blogging. I blogged for nearly nine years in a previous iteration. It was a daily ritual during the long hiatus from regular life that the Covid pandemic created. Even as the world, my world, opened up again, the clicking away on my phone or computer keyboard, reading comments if something I said had any resonance, and reading and commenting on other blogs in return became my morning norm. Life sure is unpredictable. A year ago, just after Christmas, I had read of the tragic loss of my blogger friend's husband who passed away on Christmas morning, then read one of her readers lost her husband the same week. Never would I imagine just a few weeks later would I be joining that unasked for club, faced with my own widow story. But there it is. I've had to try and figure out life in this unplanned and foreign place. I'm not a young widow, having raised and launched three children, but at now 58, feel too young to be thought of in the same space as my 83-y

Floundering Financially

      Edit: It's all going to be ok. I used this space to get my frustration out, and now with time, have a clearer head. I've also gotten perspective back that there's more important things than money, and money is only a tool to help those more important things. We're going through a sudden medical crisis with my youngest's kitten. He's her emotional support animal and I'll do what is possible to help him, her, and us. I appreciate the kind words, the listen up words, and snippets of advice. I'll take it all in once we are on the other side of this situation.       Remember when I said the awful tax meeting resulted in a multiple thousand dollar swing to the negative? I made adjustments to my W2 to counter and thought I'd have to figure out how to reduce my monthly cash flow by $350. The jokes just keep hitting. I got the new pay day calculation, though pay day is not until Friday. I wish it was -$350. Actually, take home pay will decrease by $686
