Sunday Thoughts October 19, 2025

Has anyone heard or know anything about Coffee with Ritter? We're a small blog community and I regularly read her Saturday posts but it's been a few weeks, and now her blog is down completely. She's had some hard times, but seems like such a lovely caring person. I hope the nasty trolls left her alone. If you're reading posts, Ritter, know you have people concerned and rooting for you.

Every day since I got home has been perfect Minnesota Fall. It's almost a message to say, "See, Minnesota is wonderful. You don't need anywhere else." I had so much indoor stuff to do but managed to get a good walk. Fall colors are mediocre again this year because of the unseasonably warm September, but I still enjoy the walk by the pond or the rivers.

My older daughter had something fall on her toe so she decided to not come for the Vikings game but spend the day icing it. I'll meet her to get the dog in the morning. I missed that goofy guy. Before her battle with a picture frame, she and her dog got in several walks themselves. He's so handsome in his adventure pack as we call the dog harness.

I'm helping the youngest get her violin and guitar to the repair shop too this week. My friend that started a community orchestra has encouraged her to jump back in, regardless of her rusty skills. I think it'll be a nice fit for her. She's had a really busy fall work schedule. Besides doing environmental education and several school field trips a week, she's been assisting with controlled prairie burns.

I had some pictures of her leading a field trip on a hike through the different biospheres at the eco enter but too many people to blur. You can't see any faces in the above picture.

Thank you for all the good thoughts, recommendations, and cautions about future  snowbird plans. Nothing will happen purchase wise before I start drawing my pension in another six years and maybe not at all. Trips likely won't exceed 6 weeks at a time, more likely two week blocks but good to have real world opinions based on experience. I can say I'll rule out anywhere you can't swim or wade into the water at the beach.  Knowing where pools are pretty much closed in the snow bird months is useful too. I haven't really explored the southwest much, but haven't ruled it out. I found the mobile home retirement parks my in-law bought and stayed at for a decade was not my cup of tea, but I  can't dismiss other options.

I'm trying to create an online trip journal for family and friends. The freebies are quite full and limited, but I suppose will do the job. I could do a private blogger with a different email I suppose. I can always just send a few emails with pictures or a Whatsapp Community. Just a few people have wanted to be kept posted but I also want to capture for myself too. I've probably spent too much time on it; it's not too deep, as the young people say, to over think it.

Comments

  1. I started an invitation only blog on blogger for a trip with friends to Canada many years ago. Then invited only close family and the friends we were staying with. That seemed to work.

    1. I'll do that with whatever platform I end up using. Good idea.

  2. We’ve had really nice weather down here too. I love crisp fall days and wish we could extend the season. I like the title of your grand pups “adventure pack” 😂

    1. My husband counted the phrase when she bought the first one. It has a little pouch for poo bags so he's good to go!

  3. My friend created a google album and just invited folks :) she did it for her wedding and it worked pretty well! As for Rhiter, I think a negative comment may have spurred on her removing the blog :( I emailed her, just to send her love.

    1. I'm so sorry for Rhitter. Her blog seemed to be a good place for her but nasty people that think they know more about other people's lives feel like they can say anything.

    2. Yes! I think even for myself, I feel like I know bloggers and like I said below, over step the boundaries. I am sorry for her too, I enjoyed reading her posts and she works so hard and is just great.

    3. Thanks for the update on Rhitter as I followed her too. I like her. She seems like a very kind person that always has many moving parts in her life to manage

  4. Trolls are everywhere these days, and not just under bridges. I am sorry to hear of Ritter likely being driven away. In these days, even "well-meaning" friends make comments that make me think "Seriously? You really needed to say THAT?" That's why I deactivated my Facebook page months ago.

    1. I know I've been guilty of saying insensitive things too, without really weighing the situation. Some do not even try to withhold their unasked for opinions. I'm minimally active on Facebook now too.

    2. I made what I thought was a well meaning comment on a blog the other day and after I was like damn, maybe I need to keep it in check, because the blogger posted in a way that felt like it was about what i said, and i apologized on their subsequent post. :/ So I agree with you- too many trolls, and unfiltered opinions, well meaning or not.

  5. I'm sorry to hear about Rhitter (sending you positive thoughts & support, if you are reading)!

When I've done trips with friends, I typically create a Google photo album & share the link with them. It's very easy to track all of the photos, and you can limit access, remove or add people, etc. It's pretty straightforward. - Hawaii Planner

    1. Good idea and another tool to explore for sharing photos.

  6. I am missing Ritter myself. I loved her blogging style and the fact that she was real and honest. The prairie burn looks interesting! Being from New England, I did not really associate the prairie with Minnesota so I guess I need to improve my geography. Go0d luck with your travel (or enjoying your home) planning.

  7. I also miss Rhitter and hope she is well. The internet can be brutal and while she is trying to be accountable and honest about her situation she is open for abuse. I don't blame her for wanting to keep herself safe. I am trying to be more mindful of my comments. Is it kind? Is it nessesary? No? Then maybe you should move on.

  8. I am also concerned about Rhitter, worried that a troll had posted something nasty. Like Amy above , I've also been trying to consider how my comment might sound to someone who doesn't know me and can't see my face (Smiling? Frowning? ).

  9. If you're just sharing photos, you could do a Google Album and invite people to it. That's how Daughter and SIL are sharing photos of Baby A.
I think it's sad that people feel the need to make nasty comments to people. If you don't enjoy what they write, don't read it, move on. Life is too short.

    1. I want to do narrative too. I think 69 pics over 30 days might be enough for sharing but I'm disappointed in the limited video.
