Review of June Goals
Goodbye June! ðŸ˜
I've set goals for the month and now it's time to be honest with myself.
Financial:
- Shave $75 off budget grocery/ HH target of $575. I say target not budget because I feel like I have less control on costs, but control on what I buy.Nope. I was doing well, then last week hit and I needed specific cleaning supplies. Then I decided to both berry pick and go to the farmers market and really splurged. ( I regret nothing). We ran out of Cat litter when I thought there was a full one in the garage...it was empty.
- Reduce gas to not more than two fill ups. More walking, more consolidation of trips. This was good, but I was gone a week and had filled up on May 30 so that tank stretched well into June. I'll keep this goal going forward.
- Sell boat.Bittersweet victory. I got a bit less than hoping for, but without any drama or pain, which made it acceptable.
Family:
- Do one fun activity with each or kids collectively. I went to garage sales and had lunch with older daughter, joined my son at the lake, and got sushi ( her) and ice cream with my younger daughter in Father's Day.
- Go to lake to visit MIL at least one time. I went to lake twice and she wasn't there. I took her out for lunch so going to say this was yellow as I tried and I did see her this month.
- Find something to do on Father's Day with kids to help get through the day. See above. My son worked and older daughter just wanted a day at her house, so it was just me and the youngest. Yellow, because we got through the day, but only because there's not an alternative.
- Join my family Tuesday lunch at least one time. I joined for the burger and shake special at a newish 50's diner style restaurant. To be honest, they pretty much eat, chat just a bit, and everyone goes on their way. Both my next next oldest sister who retired in 2024 and I thought these would be much more of a way to stay updated and connected on extended family. Restaurants on weekdays aren't the most inviting for a long social visit. I think I'd rather make a pot of soup or a big salad and bread and have an open invite once a month.
- Host my family for an informal get together one night. It was after the post park cleaning and we combined June bookclub. And contrary to the "speed" lunches, we chatted for hours! I'd like to plan a quarterly hosting night. We'll schedule another park clean in September and it worked well.
Fitness ( physical and mental):
- Lose 5 pounds- Technically yes, but only after I gained a bit first from the Memphis trip. I don't think it gets a green.
- Download a good podcast for walking. I haven't downloaded any yet.
- Walk at least one time per week, with or without grand pup, outside of my neighborhood. Just once we got off the regular routes. We seemed to need to dodge rain or be mindful of excessive heat and paws on pavement.
Personal
- Meet up with at least one friend. Sad to say I did not, other than the retirement lunch with a colleague, but that's not what I meant by this goal. I'm feeling disconnected again outside of family. People are busy in the summer with their own family and spouses, busy preparing then going on vacations. My friends all still work.
- Play trivia at least one time in the month. I did play once and we even won.
- Purge xx items of clothing. I know there are heaps that can go, but at least one pair of shoes, a sweater, and a T-shirt left my house with nothing replacing them.
- Get out with my camera a minimum of two times. Document the evidence in blog posts. Maybe next month. Hey, I found the rechargeable battery pack so that will help.
- Read two books, both family book club one and a second.Does it count that I didn't quite finish the book club book and the other was rereading Volume 1 of the Tightwad Gazette for ideas and thrifty inspiration after hemorrhaging money this month?
Other
- Get rooms flipped for office upstairs Sons staying downstairs where my office was, so he has a room but I've created chaos in the family room and daughters old bedroom. After the closet/ ceiling/ window issue and carpet cleaned, I'll assemble the office space. That's been and will be my Saturday to Wednesday priority.
- Blog at least 3 times per week. I'm pretty sure I've done at least three per week.
- Make time at least one time per week for other writing projects. I'm disappointed for this being red.
Now to think about July. It needs to be a thrifty and productive month. Hopefully, no more surprises and I can move forward.
I love the idea of setting goals for the month. I need to consider doing that as well. My July needs to be thrifty and productive too.
ReplyDeleteI'm of a mindset that I'll set them as a guide, but I'll hurt no one, including myself, if all is not green. Well, the not losing weight can hurt me I'm the scheme of good health.
DeleteYou had an ambitious list for the month. Adding all the green and yellow items together it looks like you made great progress.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, for sure there was progress. I see this as a guide, not a mandate.
DeleteI have no clue where June went! The big highlight was B’s 21st birthday and vacation. We also made it to an afternoon Pirates game, and the night market. Had dinner with my daughter, my son’s girlfriend and one of her friends that I adore, a wonderful lil girls night. Went to a pool party, again a wonderful girls afternoon. Decluttering hit a standstill but did donate one bag and trash two bags early in the month. Used coupons to treat myself to new bed sheets and some new Pyrex. And of course the new fridge. A rather full month I’d say. JoAnn
ReplyDeleteI could really use some girls afternoons. I'm keeping busy, but I'm quite lonely much if the time. After I get the new mattress, I'm sure I'll want to invest in a new set of sheets.
DeleteWow, what a month. You’re doing great. I love how devoted you are to scheduling time with family. We have tried, but, holidays aside, we find it works best if things are serendipitous. I have some kids, (one in particular) who can only take so much togetherness! (“I am having all the fun I can stand,” is a direct quote from that kid as an elementary schooler.)
ReplyDeletethink I missed the issue with the ceiling/window/closet? Guessing a leak, but regardless, in home ownership it’s ALWAYS something, and I say that living in a beautifully constructed 3 year old house.
Book Club: An acquaintance just started a monthly “No Pressure “ book club at the library. Read any book you like, and come once a month to talk about it. I may have to check it out! I find that I have a hard time enjoying reading a pre selected book in time for a meeting…too much like college!

I'd be completely lonely and even more sad than I am so often without the time with my kids and siblings. I like the no pressure book club idea. There's been a bunch of books this year that we're not my thing and I'd have stopped reading ( like Junes) .
DeleteIf you’re looking for a good podcast to enjoy while walking I like Smartless with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes. They have a new guest with each episode: it makes my walk go fast and oftentimes makes me laugh out loud. ColoradoGirl
ReplyDeleteI like all three of them so can imagine it'd be fun to listen to.
DeleteI love The Tighwad Gazette and reread it often! Amy was my hero when my kids were growing up! Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteI think she gave me enough tips in my younger mom day's to thoroughly give my kids reason to question my grasp of reality. Lol.
