June Goals

I'm already five days into June, once again typing this while sitting in an airport waiting to board for the trip home. It was a good few days. Drafting goals for May seemed to give me a bit of focus so let's see if it works for June.

Financial:

  • Shave $75 off budget grocery/ HH target of $575. I say target not budget because I feel like I have less control on costs, but control on what I buy.
  • Reduce gas to not more than two fill ups. More walking, more consolidation of trips.
  • Sell boat. The boat shed is still storing for me as we didn't even want the hastle of bringing to the lake.

Family:

  • Do one fun activity with each or kids collectively.
  • Go to lake to visit MIL at least one time. We had a not quite falling out, but I spoke up about something that was bothering me a great deal and she took offense. She was still a bit cold towards me Memorial Day Sunday, but "thawed" as we discussed possible plants for the memorial garden for my husband. For my kids and my husband's memory, I'm trying to make sure I nurture at least an amicable relationship with her.
  • Find something to do on Father's Day with kids to help get through the day. My son likely will be working at the brewery/pizza shed, and daughter at Raptor center, but maybe meet older  daughter for a walk, then with younger for dinner at a non-family friendly place, or my back yard.
  • Join my family Tuesday lunch at least one time. I'm trying to be budget conscious so weekly is too much, but on occasion a nice splurge.
  • Host my family for an informal get together one night. Likely it will be post park cleaning as we still have an adopt a park.

Fitness ( physical and mental):

  • Lose 5 pounds- let's try this again shall we
  • Download a good podcast for walking
  • Walk at least one time per week, with or without grand pup, outside of my neighborhood

Personal

  • Meet up with at least one friend.
  • Play trivia at least one time in the month.
  • Purge xx items of clothing. I know there are heaps that can go, but as I'm likely to buy minimally, need to review conscientiously what gets tossed so not setting a specific number
  • Get out with my camera a minimum of two times. Document the evidence in blog posts.
  • Read two books, both family book club one and a second.

Other

  • Get rooms flipped for office upstairs (Hoping my kids did bulk of this while I was gone).
  • Blog at least 3 times per week.
  • Make time at least one time per week for other writing projects. I might move Thursday dog sitting to my daughter's house and she'll get him on Wednesday nights and I'll go there Thursday where there's less distractions.
That's a mighty list but should be completely doable. It doesn't include just basic life maintenance we all have, cooking, cleaning, yard work. I'll check in next month.

  1. Love this list. Cannot wait to hear about your trip! I enjoy a few podcasts here and there. Modern Love by the New York Times is a good one - about all kinds of love, not just romantic - but it can be heavy too - I like that though, I enjoy a good cry :) Good on you for speaking up to your MIL. Things can get prickly, and folks of a certain age feel their age means they cannot even listen to criticism. It's going to be a great June for you.

    1. There's a TV show on some streaming called Modern Love too. I bet it was based on the podcast. It's just going to be awkward with MIL, but it doesn't need to be stressful.

    1. I want to enjoy the days. April and May were not what I had in mind for retirement.

  5. All these goals sound doable. Most can be shifted to another day so it is flexible. I am looking forward to Memphis trip post and pictures.

    1. I'll figure out when to do that. I took fewer pics than I'd have thought.

  6. It sounds like you have wonderful plans for June. I'm sure it will be hard for you to sell the boat but it sounds like the reasonable thing to do. Boats are as much work as they are fun.

    1. I just can't manage the boat and the kids don't have time, not that much interest.

  7. This is a good list! I like the idea of holding yourself accountable for the photos by posting them. (:

  8. I think while awkward, my stress was helped by speaking up. It's not about not enjoying the boat when in use, it's the amount of work and expense for the limited time we'd be able to use. It was my husband's retirement plan boat.
