Listening Through the CD Collection
There is power in music for all of us. This is true in our final days. My brother is an ardent music collector, decades of artists, wide range of genres. He used to have a huge reel to reel system. He and I had a shared love of a few artists, The Band, the old Bee Gees-pre-disco/Saturday night fever, the Beetles, and CCR jump out. When I babysat, he often set up a play list for me to listen to after his kids went to bed. He long transitioned to CD's but the discs are in the hundreds if not reaching 1000. We are going down the alphabet as he has them stored. A small CD player gave out, but my SIL found my nephews from 30 years ago upstairs, and we are now using a big boom box/cd player. We are on the second Beatles CD in the organizer. When The Beach Boys was on, he was mouthing words to Wouldn't It Be Nice. I have not looked at what CD is the last in his collection.
A beautiful way to share your music interest and give you all joyful memories. Hugs Sam.
ReplyDeleteIts been a good way to sit with him.
DeleteWhat a lovely thing to be doing for him and yourselves.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Admittedly, we skipped a CD or two when he was sound asleep.
DeleteIts wonderful that you and your brother are sharing your love of music, that's so special. xxx
ReplyDeleteHe bought me my first BeeGees album when I was 10.
DeleteI love music. It is so touching to see that you and your brother are sharing this bond. A life without music to me would be so empty.
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten how ecclectic his tastes are. I'm picturing him fund my a missing CD for his collection with a smile.
DeleteMusic seems to calm us all - especially from the times we were younger.
ReplyDeleteIn his case older.

ReplyDeleteSeeing her m mourning aloud to one of his favorites gave me happy tears.
DeleteWhen my dad was in his final days, we played his favorite music - Andy Williams, etc. It calmed and comforted him so much he was practically smiling. Thinking of your brother and your family during his journey.
ReplyDeleteAndy Williams had a soothing voice. My parents had Christmas albums of his.
DeleteWhat a wonderful gift he is giving you by sharing his music, and what a wonderful gift you are giving him by listening to it with him.
ReplyDeleteI'm able to do so little but this seems to be a source of comfort.
DeleteI love this method of remembrance with him. He is lucky to have you sharing his passion.
ReplyDeleteI'm the lucky one.
DeleteOh my, I remember my sister being a Beach Boys fan (I was a bit too young) and dreaming of moving to California. Music is so potent I'm glad you're rediscovering it for your brother!
ReplyDeleteBy proxy, I became a fan of anything my older siblings listened to...he's 18 years older than me so imagine the music changes I kept up with.
DeleteBrilliant! What an interesting way to revisit your life.
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful that you can share with your brother memories through music that you are listening to together.
