May Wrap Up 2026

May was both busy and not. It was a mild social month, not intentional, but just how it ended up. Two sisters and husbands were on back to back cruises, left on the 8th, with extended days in London upon docking from second cruise. I'm picking them up today at the airport. Others siblings and friends were busy with their lives. My kids are all busy with their jobs and I certainly wouldn't expect them to keep me entertained. I've read more this month and have a good list of recommendations. Soreness aside, I did a bit of puttering, overdue life admin, and a few mentally stimulating hobbies. I probably watched too much TV or streaming.

May 1-7

  • Derby Day combined with book club and cards was fun. I though needed to miss most of cards as pup needed his shot and we're not young anymore so would have been a time waste to go back asceveryonecwoukd have been wrapping up soon anyway.
  • After son's condo went through the inspection phase, happily, repairs needed were few and were covered by seller. (Completed May 15/16th).
  • Yet another meds adjustment for pup, which means his prescription costs will go up again.

May 8-14

  • Mother's Day girl's dinner was a highlight, but the fall earlier in the day sort of put a real damper on the day.
  • Poor grandpup also had a bit of an accident to the pad on one paw, requiring TLC and antibiotics. We think it was caused by aggressive post business paw swiping and he sliced it on a sharp rock or stick.

May 15-21

  • I'm happy my sister has a busy social life and me not having one this month meant I could feed her cats for the weekend so she could go on an impromptu trip to a friends cabin.
  • I was sort of a lurker in another room, but joined son and friend who had gathered for the MMA return bouts, for pizza, wings, and a beer.
  • Met a couple former colleagues, both also retired, for lunch. I hadn't seen either since A's retirement party last April.
  • I went to book club, but wasn't feeling too comfortable by the end so didn't linger. But, it was pretty cool that we had the books author, a former classmate of our coordinator, on ZOOM to ask questions. While I wasn't wowed by the book, hearing her thought process and motivation in writing it, improved my reader experience and now I'm intrigued to learn about future books she may write or has written.
  • My son closed on his condo. Timing of life changes means he's going to buy a beautiful, practically new recliner sectional sofa from my friends mom, who's moving into an independent living apartment and drastically needs to downsize. He's worked out moving logistics.

May 22-31

  • Son got me soil for the raised bed and to top off pots, poured and spread, and I got seeds started. Wish me luck.
  • Early cleaning and recheck on my teeth. You might recall, I was battling infection and tissue damage this past winter. Positive progress has been made. These extra 2 cleanings, at least for this year, will be mostly out of pocket, but fortunately they only have the hygienist not dentist charges, so a bit better. Hopefully in 2027 I can cut the additional to just one, and by 2028, back to normal cycle.
  • I pet sat cats and grandpup so kids could work and do cabin related projects without interference Memorial Day weekend.
  • Graduation party out of town.
  • I bought a blue flowering hydrangea for the kids to plant in the memorial garden at the lake for their dad.

Next week starts Thursday night concerts at the river park Pavillion and other events like comedians on a few Tuesdays and movie nights. I plan to go with a friend to many as weather and conflicts permits. These are fun community gatherings and I always see people I know. There's other activities on the schedule too for June in addition to garden and yard care, pets needs, and son moving. A sister turns 70 and a friend 60 so two parties planned. I want to get out and about on the bike. Of course the list of things needed in the house is ever long, so I have no excuse not to be busy. Nice evenings I'll be hanging outside with the dogs and restocked wine, beer and soft beverages, plus some easy to put out nibbles, so ready for any company. How was your May?

  1. A mixed month for me, quite literally sometimes……sunshine and showers. I turned 65 and do feel I’ve aged quite a lot in the years since my 60th birthday, that’s life.
I love hydrangeas and yours will make a lovely memorial.

  2. We had a decent month, I cannot complain. LOL
Your hydrangea is beautiful. We used to have one at our old house. I just love the color.
That sounds fun to have the book author on Zoom for your book club. Bailey has met one of her favorite authors twice now and he even remembered her the second time. She annotates all her books she reads and he found that fascinating that she had done it to her copies of his books.
