Friday Fiscal Wellness Check June 26, 2026

For my Friday posts, I copy a previous week, delete the old and update as I go along the week. This helps me add as the week goes on. Here's my recap of Friday, June 19 to Thursday, June 25. I just sort of list things as they come up.

Use it Up/Avoid Waste
  • Brought food to the cabin (day trip) with what was on hand.
  • Daughter had a Hungry Root delivery and had items she didn't/wasn't planning to use so brought to me as they needed using. ( I sneakily transferred her $)
Avoiding Spending/Saving on needs
  •  The T-Mobile Tuesday reward was a Big Gulp Soda from Speedway. I used it after an hour plus in the back yard pulling and lopping yet more jungle. Pop is one purchase I've really cut back from in this economy. It was a nice treat, though so much soda at one time.

Opportunities to add Funds/Windfalls

  • Entered receipts in Fetch, played MS Rewards, and a few surveys.
  • Renewed a CD for another 3  months.

 Non-Thrifty or Frugal

  • Adding doggie diapers to the monthly expenses. So far he's not pleased, but hasn't tore off at night. Interesting that he hasn't had an overnight accident wearing them.

Then, there are often other things that impacted my check book that came up without much planning or notice, an extra optional or necessary expense, or an all-out splurge.

  • I looked for second hand but no luck so sprung for a dog stroller for pup. It came Tuesday night and I already put to good use Wednesday and yesterday. He was suspicious but it meant longer walks and being able to take him along places that his mobility would challenge.

Daily Dinner Diary (Friday 6/19  to Thursday, 6/25).

Fri -  Went out for dinner with family and had a burger with waffle fries. The burger was huge so cut in half, took home, and son ate other half as his breakfast

Sat- Son grilled chicken, and had along with pasta salad, potato salad, cabbage salad, veggies and dip. SIL and I combined sides for 9 of us.

Sun- Remaining TJ tomato soup from a carton and air fryer toasted cheese sandwich

Mon- Turkey meatballs in a mushroom soup sauce, steamed seasoned potatos, mixed vegetables

Tues- Chicken tortellini alfredo with spinach, green salad from my planters

Weds- leftover tortellini

Thur-  Turkey meatloaf, mashed potatoes, broccoli

Lots of free entertainment with watching World Cup matches, reading or having a catchup with neighbors outside when weather cooperated, and good walks with the dogs as the weather has been a blend of rain and comfortable. How was your week?

  1. Another busy (overloaded) week here but we managed to hold costs down. The basement freezer IS getting emptier and I am watching for sales on chicken (our main meat in this household) to help boost it back up!

    1. It was a quiet week for me; most are now as it's pretty much me and pets. I have very little meat in the house right now but could put vegetarian meals together easily.

  2. It cost over £10 for parking at our 2 hospital visits this week, along with fuel, and we have to do it again next week. We also had a coffee there as we arrived early to ensure we could get parked. Hopefully we will have our own car back on Tuesday, but that means we'll have to put fuel in the hire car before we return it. Still waiting for the refund for the new car seat. I hope I receive it before my credit card needs to be paid!
I just want to get back to the caravan. I'm sure we will have lost all of our plants in the heat.

    1. Last year with my brother in the hospital for 3 months off and on, the parking was adding up. My sister in law had fees daily, though we tried to coordinate rides back and forth to help her. It adds to the stress of already being in a medical facility. Your heat has been something thus spring and now summer. Good luck on your car. Its been so long...they could have built it from parts.

  3. Firstly, thank you for the TMobile weekly/monthly deals tip, as they are are cell phone carrier, and I did not know these deals existed!

Secondly, I am off to look up how to air fry a grilled cheese sandwich, as that would be a great addition to my list of lunch items should they allow leaving off of the calorie-dense butter!

    1. Every so often there's a Tuesday deal I'll use. I have a free drink sitting in my Delta app through T-Mobile though it'll probably expire before I next fly. I literally jyst put cheese between bread and put in air fryer, flipping mid way. Watch because it goes from bread to toast suddenly though starts slow. No butter needed but the yummy melt is still there.

  4. My week has been up and down. I am afraid I vented a bit on my post today. Your meals sound lovely and a visit with family is always enjoyable.

    God bless.

  5. Good week it sounds like! The doggy stroller sounds like a good investment for both of you!
Not a bad week financially. I seem to take two steps forward and one back though.

    1. It was so much more than I wanted to spend, but it's done now. Groceries and gas, even though gone down a bit, are still budget stretchers.

  6. The turkey meatballs in the mushroom sauce sound fantastic! Cindy in the South

    1. These were from her Hungry Root and mediocre. It wasca good way to use some mushrooms up that were on the brink of going bad.

  7. I had absolutely no savings of any kind on vacation, except I came home to a $250 refund from college for the dorm room deposit (hard earned through lots of cleaning before I moved out Nick) & some sort of $7 settlement. - Hawaii Planner

  8. I had a somewhat spendy week, what with going to the beach. But I did manage to snag free breakfast for my two days' stay, and instead of eating out one night I simply bought a cheese/meat/grapes combo at the local grocery store. I also packed myself some inexpensive snacks and wine. Spent zero dollars on beach parking permit, souvenirs, and beach chair rental. Still had fun!

    1. You motivate me to do solo short getaways. Yes, there'd be hotel and gas but many have at leadt continental breakfast and I'd trade a day at the beach with a book in exchange for dinner out. You were smart to grab food you enjoy and use as dinner.
