Whole Lot to Do Today
![]() |
Even though a much shorter trip than November, I'm feeling more weight being gone for 11 days. Maybe it snuck up on me with February being so short. I've been doing a lot of juggling on family stuff in February, calmed for the moment, but some things will be still needing attention once home. My son's dropping me off tomorrow morning by 9:00. I adhere to the three hours recommended when flying internationally. I'd rather sit with a book at the gate rather than panic run should something go wrong or lines in security are long.
Speaking of my son, he was looking very lightly at homes. One ticked all the boxes but because of how he's/ we're financing, needed to wait until after February 24th. Of course, it sold. That was taken as a sign he maybe isn't supposed to settle here in Minnesota. He's paused now looking, but we'll see if things change once I'm back. Another thought I've had after caring for my sister, is maybe I should outright buy something with one level living and little maintenance, and have him live there until I'm ready to move. It's not a bad idea. My kids will inherit my assets anyway. It wouldn't lock him into a place should his career take him elsewhere. It would be a much different lens to look at property should we go that route. More to think about.
My youngest took steps towards starting a grad school program in the fall. She's still quite fragile dealing with anxiety, but doing her best to manage her bad days. My older daughter is looking at some spiff up projects on her 126 year old home. I plan to help but have a project list a mile long here. By mid May we'll get ( me attempt) gardens together.
My retirement withdrawal hasn't hit my bank yet. It's supposed to be the 28th but I suppose it landing on a weekend and February being a short month, the delay happened. I'm fine cash flow wise, but will not be able to put in the sinking fund the full amount until I get home. These will all be things that will occupy my brain on my 20 hours of travel. I intend to make the journey part of the vacation so don't want to let these thoughts make trouble. The house is quite untidy so not leaving the house at all today other than dog walks. I'll complete my packing, download more on my kindle, make sure phone and tablet are good and charged, check in for the flight online, and be ready to leave the house by 8:00. Now, to get things done.

Lots for you to think about. Have a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteJust trying to think l ahead a d not overlook today.
DeleteI'm so excited for you to go on this trip! And, I'm with you on the 3 hrs for an international flight, unless I'm flying for work, where it's often not possible due to logistics. I think entertaining the idea of buying the house for your son to live in now and for you in the future would be interesting. The question I'd want to understand would be what you'd do if he had a job elsewhere and you needed to rent?
ReplyDeleteHope your trip is so fabulous! - Hawaii Planner
Everything was a breeze so here I am at the gate two hours before boarding even starts, even after a good walk.
DeleteI wish I was coming with you! Have the best time! xxxx
ReplyDeleteFuture plans!
DeleteI think that is a great idea to buy something for yourself later and let your son live in it now. And I'm with you on the bring book, be early, and no panic.
ReplyDeleteIt's a possibility and I don't gate to make immediate decusiobs.
DeleteI will see you in Athens !

My adventure has begun...slowly.
DeleteSafe travels!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful time. So exciting! Can't wait to see pictures.
Lots to consider about buying a new house, but I'm sure you will weigh all the pros/cons.
No rush to make a decision. I'll weigh things for all of us.
DeleteSafe travels. I can’t wait to hear about it.
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to email you, but what the heck, I will tell you here:Last week a friend caught me at a weak moment and asked me to go for a walk, so I did. On the walk she talked about her plans for a Greece/Italy cruise wither her daughter and invited me to join. I agreed…

I loveeeee this for you Meg!!!
DeleteI love this too! And maybe we can get that Paris...France trip planned too.
DeleteSending lots of love and good vibes for the trip. I too prefer to be 3 hours early - only time it wasn't needed is when I went between provinces in Canada.
ReplyDeleteI'm plenty early but security was like 5 minutes.
DeleteHave fun and safe travels
ReplyDeleteThank you. I feel prepared.
DeleteHave a great trip! Enjoy the time and relax.
ReplyDeleteI sure will.
DeleteWishing you a fabulous trip as I sit here along the Panama Canal on my own. Greece is wonderful any which way you approach it!
ReplyDeleteI’m with you on three hours ahead for an Int’l flight. Travel is stressful enough without having to race to a Gate!
Ooh, my sister's and MIL dud that cruise and lived it.
DeleteI hope you have a wonderful time! Try not to worry about things while you are gone - they will still be there when you return!
ReplyDeleteI'm like you, I'd rather have a wait than rush!
Things sire will be here when I'm back. Notcryshhing- hours to spare.
DeleteHave a great trip and leave worries about home at home.
ReplyDeleteWe have toyed with the idea of buying a smaller home now and renting it until we are ready to move. I figure we have about 5 more years living here before we are ready to scale down to something smaller and more manageable.
I'm hoping for a 10 year plan, but that was after seeing how much easier my sister had it with single level living. Both bathrooms and bedrooms require stairs in my house
DeleteEnjoy Greece! There is a great little baklava place in Athens called……Baklavas! If you find it, give it a try. Wishing you sunshine and low crowds!
ReplyDeleteI plan to eat my IQ in baklava ( lower than my weight.)
DeleteSafe trip and have a wonderful time (plus take loads of picture for us all)!
ReplyDeleteI will be taking pictures. New phone plus my little camera as backup.
DeleteNot Bossy here...Sam, have a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteThank you. It'll be an adventure.
DeleteHave a wonderful trip and safe journeys. We are the same as you with being at the airport 3 hours before the flight. Who needs travel hassle when you can just chill for a while.
ReplyDeleteI'm replying to comments while sitting at the gate.
DeleteSon 2 bought a 1 story thinking some day we would move into it and buy it and he would move (thinking he would have a family) Relationship went down hill when he became disabled. Glad he had the 1 story even though it's a bit big for him, if he has to have a care taker live in or what ever , they have a bedroom and a small room for an tv/office
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry the plan changed so much. Not sure yet but exploring all options.
DeleteWOW!!! (I am reading backwards in time on your blog until I catch up.) I get an overfull February; glad you are about to hit the skies!
