My Week Ahead in January

I'm slow going today, sort of. I met my daughter at 6:45 to get her dog, but came home just to lay sort of upright while coffee was brewing. I'm having a bad nose day, meaning the dry winter air and sinus pressure combine to give me nose bleeds that are difficult to stop. This is one gift from my RA flare-ups. I'm heading though to a visitation and funeral for my BIL's mother soon, so hoping I can manage after a shower. The wet and steam often helps.

It's my youngest 25th birthday Wednesday. However, she had some sad news. A close friends sister passed away last week. The rest of the family is not in Minnesota so daughter and other friends are going to help pack up her apartment and get her things ready to get to her parents, so her schedule is not clear. We'll celebrate her birthday when she feels like she has space to actually celebrate. So, I'm attending a funeral for a 90 year old great grandma while she's helping a 26 year old man with a final act of kindness for his sister. Life does not seem fair. This on top of the trauma and chaos in the cities, that's stretched to suburbs and rural communities in Minnesota. Trolls keep your opinions to yourselves.

I'm focused on house projects, life admin, and having my sister's over on Friday. One will stay over as she lives about an hour drive away and will want to have a few beers while we play cards. She usually stays over when at our get togethers but leaves super early the next morning. I'll want to make sure the office bedroom has fresh sheets and blankets. The weather is a mixed prediction of warmer than normal and snow and ice later in the week. We're low on a lot of basics so at some point I'll stop at a store to restock, probably tomorrow after the big dog goes to doggie daycare. Wednesday I also have a dental procedure, part one and I'm dreading it. Again, not sure when and if we'll meet up with my daughter, so I'm staying flexible too.

I hope your day and week is starting well or at least better than mine.

  3. Most people with differing opinions on the happenings in MN (and OH and CA etc) are not trolls. They are friends or online readers who simply have a different opinion than you, based on facts and digging for truth rather than what is being shown on BS news. So shutting down all opinions that are not your own is a way of putting up blinders and refusing conversation or communion.

    1. And making an anonymous comment with no name - how does that contribute?

    2. Anonymous, there's a difference of opinion in preferring broccoli or carrots. Dismissing trauma caused by supposedly enforcing laws through extreme and illegal means is not just having a difference of opinion. Who the F are you to say that my views are not derived from research, fact finding, direct eye witness accounts, and my own eyes and ears? I think we know the difference between a troll and someone wanting open and honest communication. But when you come on my blog and tell me that your supposed facts allows you to dismiss what I'm seeing and witnessing, you've moved into troll territory.

    3. Siobhan,
      My thoughts exactly.
Have a great week. And thank you for your kindness and hospitality to Sam. I am quite fond of her. I know, (having had several published “differences of opinions with her) that when Sam takes a stand she knows quite well what she is talking about!

  4. Trolls? You are far too kind. Those complicit will have to answer for their crimes as well.
I will send you a long overdue email. Meanwhile, you are in my thoughts. But as my father rallied all through my early childhood, “viva a resistĂȘncia!”

  5. I am sorry you are having a difficult day. I hope you will feel better quickly, but we all have days when it is just hard to move.
Your daughter 's kindness to her friend is the ultimate gift.

  6. Some weeks are like that, filled with sadness and/or jobs we'd rather not do. Life is not fair.

My heart goes out to everyone living in Minnesota. Something's got to change soon before we lose what we value the most about America.

  8. I'm sorry Sam.
From another Samwise, " there is some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for..."
I have to believe that there is still some good in this country, as evidenced by your daughter helping her friend pack up his sister's belongings.

  9. I've been thinking about you, and figuring out how to process my feelings about what's happening & how to still live a mentally healthy life while caring deeply about others around me. It's tough. I'm also incredibly worried about what's happening in Iran & it's hard to not just melt down & give up hope. That said, like another poster noted, your daughter helping out a friend's family is indeed a sign of the kindness we can give each other, to our neighbors & friends when they need a helping hand. I am trying to funnel my energy there, as well as taking larger steps. But, the smaller things just seem more "possible" right now, if that makes sense. - Hawaii Planner
