Friday Fiscal Wellness Check October 24, 2025

For Friday Fiscal Wellness Check,  I copy the previous week, delete the old and updated as I go along the week as a way even when busy and not in a blogging mindset, I'm accountable to myself. Here's my recap of Friday, October 17 to Thursday, October 23. I just sort of list things as they come up, then edit before publishing.

Avoiding Spending/ Saving on Needs

  • It was just an ordinary week. No real wins, and a few more bills came, one I had forgotten would come ( every 6 months). I guess I'm glad it came before November 1 so I can pay without a late fee, so putting here.
Opportunities to add Funds/Windfalls

  • Entered receipts in Fetch and MS rewards points
  • As I wrap up the projects in the job, I will still log 17 hours for the week based on my schedule today.

Then, there are often other things that impacted my check book that came up without much planning or notice, an extra optional expense, or an all-out splurge. I suspect I'll have more in the coming week as I last minute prepare. Say goodbye to my Florida trip surplus.

  • I was very tired of cracked or missing lids for my Pyrex so bought a set of silicone lids. Ridiculously expensive but better than plastic wrap or tin foil and they seem indestructible. They will not be loss proof however!
  • Splurged on a pair of lined ankle rain boots. I just decided they would be needed.
  • Also ordered an extra multi prong US to UK adapter. I have one but it's single and figured I'd need more with so many things to charge.
  • I took my youngest out for brunch Monday. She had a rough work week the week before and worked all weekend. I hadn't seen her since the 6th. Both of us got two meals from our brunch and it was at a lovely locally owned cafe near her in a quaint neighborhood we call the Hallmark streets.
  • I took my MIL out for lunch Wednesday too as I'm not joining an extended family get together on Sunday.

Daily Dinner Diary (Friday 10/17 to Thursday, 10/23).
  • Fri - Baked chicken, couscous salad, sweet potato chunks
  • Sat- Wrap with leftover chicken
  • Sun- egg salad sandwich
  • Mon- Canned Chicken corn chowder Soup and grilled turkey and cheese sandwich
  • Tues- Lasagna( cheat frozen version) garlic toast and mixed vegetables
  • Weds- Pork tacos with rice and black beans
  •  Thurs- leftovers, but later we made a pizza watching the imploded Minnesota Vikings game
Last night was the fall giving event for the local  Power of 100 Women. All three organizations requests were so basic and worthwhile, and absolutely signs of the hardships people are facing. While one was selected as the "winner" I was compelled, as were many others, to donate to all three. Those above and beyond our required donation got matched by a local company. There was also a small gift drive for the local senior center too. I almost missed that on the registration email until I double checked the time. I was glad to have my stash of quick gifts and could add to the drive cozy slippers and socks, per suggested items. My family has all our needs met and so many of our wants. This was a simple way as a community to raise a lot of money in one evening and maybe help families and individuals in my own backyard. You can Google to see if there's any groups in your community. How was your week?

  1. That's really great about the event you attended. I have a friend who regularly posts about similar events she participates in, and I'm always motivated to help. I love having someone else who keeps me informed. She's a high school principal, so also very close to local needs. Her current is a fundraiser to get shoes to the 2800 kids (think I got that right) in our county who are unhoused. I don't expect those numbers to get any better.

My employer has also moved all "fun" social events to volunteering events, which I love. We are heading back to the food bank to package & distribute food. It's free to the company, and fantastic to help & give back. I also really like this organization.
