Friday Fiscal Wellness Check September 12, 2025
For Friday Fiscal Wellness Check, I copy the previous week, delete the old and updated as I go along the week as a way even when busy and not in a blogging mindset, I'm accountable to myself. Here's my recap of Friday, September 5 to Thursday, September 11. I just sort of list things as they come up, then edit before publishing.
Avoiding Spending/ Saving on Needs
- The crisper ended up with an abundant of odds and ends carrots so made a creamy carrot soup. That was supper Saturday night with hot hoagie sandwiches made on 64¢ clearance bread.
- Free extra Kitty love as I both fed sister's cats and she has neighbors with outdoor cats that she regularly feeds. They come running when I pulled into her driveway.
Papa, on the right, calico mama, and the
last kitten who is a ringer for my
daughter's first cat, on the left.
- Entered Fetch receipts and MS Reward.
- Submitted for 41.5 hours on the contract for two weeks. (8/25 to 9/5)
- I will likely work a bit today and this weekend as yesterday I was not in a good headspace, so put in minimal time. I should still end the week over 20 hours.
Then, there are often other things that impacted my check book that came up without much planning or notice, an extra optional expense, or an all-out splurge.
- I decided to give meal kits a try. I'm in a rut and some days, not motivated. I also like the portion control model. I used the $1.99 EveryPlate introductory with free add ons. If successful, I'll do a box of three every other week or so. I also might try another brand to try options. I know...not thrifty but even at full price, less than a meal out or take out for two.
- Two sort of need purchases, but not really budgeted for. I used my bedroom TV antenna to set my SIL up with regular channels so she could ditch Direct TV and save some money. With it getting darker earlier, I'll want to end my days watching news upstairs so I replaced mine. My daughter used Little Misses cat carrier tote for her kitten. I just had her keep, but we're due for a vet check-up as it's been a year, so replaced hers.
Daily Dinner Diary (Friday 9/5 to Thursday, 9/11).

- Sat- Carrot soup and hot hoagies
- Sun- Leftover soup with bread and sliced apples

I've got grandpup today as daughter had plans beyond his window of staying alone. I've got a lot going on before Sundays birthday party for my MIL. How was your week?
I hope the party for your MIL is gentle and your efforts appreciated. Been a social week - making a cake for my friends daughters birthday today - she is turning 14. Breakfast out with my son tomorrow followed by G and T afternoon with very dear friends and going to watch the WRU quarter final England Vs Scotland live on Sunday . After that I shall spend at least one day with the curtains closed

Crazy week, but no time to spend money, so that's a win, I suppose? Sam can't come to family weekend (has to work), so I cancelled his ticket & received a credit for future travel. We ate a lot of leftovers, and I salvaged two of those Boursin cheeses that were well past their date, but still fine to cook with. Cute bonus cats! - Hawaii Planner
ReplyDeleteMy son used the meal kits when they were renovating their house and loved them. He was over here the other day and said they thought they might get the 3 meal package again for convenience after they both get home from work.
ReplyDeleteI feel as if I have spent the past week in the phone. There is just so much to do. I am hopeful I managed to complete the biggest things. USAA was over an hour on the phone. I am really annoyed as all I was doing was transferring ownership.Apparently, even so, the umbrella policy had to go through underwriting . It was approved, but the rep has called two successive days in a row and still hasn’t been able to access it.
ReplyDeleteNext week I meet with a probate attorney to address the tax implications. I have 9 months to get that paperwork filed, but I don’t want to do it, so am turning it over to them. I don’t mean to sound like a princes, but there is only so much I can handle right now.
I suppose I could consider myself lucky…I could always access all the funds and there is enough to go around. I get that, but this still sucks. There’s nothing so bad that paperwork (and automated phone options) can’t make worse, is there?

That should be “princess” not “princess” and ignore the other typos too. -Meg B.
