Friday Fiscal Wellness Check September 19, 2025

For Friday Fiscal Wellness Check,  I copy the previous week, delete the old and updated as I go along the week as a way even when busy and not in a blogging mindset, I'm accountable to myself. Here's my recap of Friday, September 12 to Thursday, September 18. I just sort of list things as they come up, then edit before publishing.

Avoiding Spending/ Saving on Needs

  • My brother is in town and we met for dinner Friday night. My sister insisted on paying for my meal as thank you for feeding her cats. I tried to insist it was not necessary but she won and we decided to call it good for the next year of cat care. I'll make sure remembers.
  • I returned for refund or replacement the portable monitor, just under the wire. Suddenly on Monday it no longer was linking to my computer and I think it was because of the the battery,  which was perpetually in power saving mode even plugged in. Stuff is too expensive to accept poor quality. I'm just glad it was an issue while still in the return window. They sent a replacement.
  • My sister drove and I bought the $6 movie seats for her, another sister and my brother who's in town to see the last Downton Abbey movie. We all got a courtesy free popcorn as I signed up for the free membership to Marcus theaters ages ago.
  • Groceries have been atrocious this month, but I stretched a rotisserie chicken to sandwiches, a thick soup, and chicken pasta salad for lunch one day. They make delicious soup broth.
Opportunities to add Funds/Windfalls

  • Entered Fetch receipts and MS Reward.
  • There's a mess with the payment system and an invoice got paid twice, so if my client can't reverse, I'll have to include a credit, and tracking will be a pain. Due to that and potentially working some this weekend, I held off billing.

Then, there are often other things that impacted my check book that came up without much planning or notice, an extra optional expense, or an all-out splurge.

  • Florida is back on! I paid my friend for my plane ticket, carryon, and 1/3 car rental. She has a cc that provides discounted seats, baggage, and priority status through Sun Country and it's a regular route. I'll need to do some work while there, but shifting my timeline a bit to have more done before that week. The whole point of taking this contract was for padding my travel budget, so this is guilt free spending ( maybe a twinge of guilt.)
  • I sent a check to my SIL, but have no idea if that plus the cake costs is enough, too much, or just right. Now, both she and BIL said the cake was enough, but that didn't feel right.
  • One purchase I'll say is an investment in healthy eating. My large fry pan has all the stuff I think now are known to be bad. Plus, I needed a wok like pan as we're doing more stir fry as part of getting more veg in my meals. I bought a 12 in flat bottom but high sided covered wok, no extra coatings, oven safe to 500°. I'll be tossing the old. The unfortunate thing is I am not sure where to store as it's quite large but I want easy access so don't want it in the utility room where infrequently used kitchen stuff is stored.
Daily Dinner Diary (Friday 9/12 to Thursday, 9/18).
  • Fri - Meal out- I had a burger with green olive sour cream and pepper jack cheese. Delicious.
  • Sat-   Rotisserie chicken sandwich
  • Sun- Just nibbles after the party- essentially leftovers
  • Mon- Chicken tortellini Alfredo soup that was  almost a hotdish it was so thick.
  • Tues- TexMex Tacos (EveryPlate). This was free lunch add on but I also supplemented with my own cheddar cheese and some diced tomatoes and onions from my daughter's garden to round out a bit. We were not fans of the seasoning, but ate them anyway.
  • Weds- Pork chops with Mediterranean couscous salad (EveryPlate)
  •  Thurs- Beef and Rice Bowls (EveryPlate) made ahead for son as he was working to eat later, I had fundraiser dinner, which was a delicious French inspired four course meal, with three wines.
It's a get caught up kind of weekend. Older daughter is working at the Twin Cities Veg Fest for her friend with the Vegan food truck. Last year she made a lot in tips for the day and that funded a November get away. Grandpup will be here so she might come Saturday night and see friends that live in town. How was your week?

  1. That was a good exchange with your sister for your dinner in exchange for feeding her cats. I’m glad you were able to exchange the portable monitor in time. I agree stuff costs too much to accept poor quality. How was the Downton Abby movie? I can’t wait to see it. You did good stretching that rotisserie chicken. I have a roasting chicken thawing in my fridge for this week.sounds like your new wok like pan is nice. I keep my most used pan right in the oven so I can easily pull it out to cook. It works for me, although Bailey isn’t crazy about it. 😂
