Friday Fiscal Wellness Check August 1, 2025
I copy the previous week, delete the old and updated as I go along the week as a way even when busy and not in a blogging mindset I'm accountable to myself. Here's my recap of Friday, July 25th to Thursday, July 31. I just sort of list things as they come up, then edit before publishing.
Avoiding Spending/ Saving on Needs
- I stocked up on Purex at $1.99 and used a $5 rewards at Walgreens. We shouldn't need laundry detergent for at least five months.
- Entered Fetch receipts and MS Rewards
Miscellaneous things that don't quite fit in other categories
- I saw an ad for Hygee and West wallpaper, then an option to get three free 81/2" by 11" samples. I've been toying with wallpapering a wall in each bathroom for a little interest. These samples will help me decide plus, there's an interactive option in the website to upload a picture of a room and see how the paper would look. The actual wallpaper is very expensive and outside what I thought I'd spend if I do this design. However, I've seen people frame wallpaper as "art". I ordered a London theme, Paris theme, and a flower and butterfly in subtle blue and yellow colors. I'm not sure how to link to get the free samples but I did have to do the annoying sign up.
Then, there are often other things that impacted my check book that came up without much planning or notice, an extra optional expense, or an all-out splurge.
- This is a regular splurge it seems but bought a pepperoni roll and a raspberry scone from Great Harvest at the farmers market
- Vet bills...enough said
Daily Dinner Diary (Friday 7/25 to Thursday, 7/31).
- Fri - Leftover pork chops, baked potato, seamed zucchini
- Sat- Pizza at sister's with fruit, assorted chips and dip ( yep, junk food)
- Sun- Vegetable and pasta salad, watermelon
- Mon- Chickpea curry and naan
- Tues- Beef ravioli, garlic bread, and salad
- Wednesday- Leftovers
- Thurs- Frozen chicken bacon ranch pizza and watermelon
August is my husband's birthday month and I'm getting freebies ( like BOGo meals, $10 off $30 offers, $10 towards anything in the store) sent in his name. I'm not about to call random businesses to tell them to remove him from their birthday rolls. They're sent to lure buyers to spend more, so I think it's fine to use what works for us. How was your week?
I love starting a new month as I track our grocery spending: can see what July held and think about August. Your pepperoni roll/raspberry scone becoming regular: enjoy every bite!
ReplyDeleteThe previous Saturday they were sold out of the pepperoni roll so nabbed one this week.
DeleteI do hope you're able to take advantage of those birthday deals you keep being offered, a lovely way to honour his memory. I used to do the same on what would have been my mum's birthday. xxx
ReplyDeleteGetting things in the mail in his name no longer is the trigger it used to be. If he wants to help me save a bit of money, I'll take it.
DeleteDefinitely use those birthday coupons! I agree with Vix that it is a great way to remember him as you redeem them.
ReplyDeleteOne is for a hardware store and I do need a small pot of paint.
DeleteI’d use hubbys free birthday coupons too. You can celebrate him in style! Great deal on the Purex! I saw an almost empty bottle of it at a yard sale today. Anything goes these days. 😆
ReplyDeleteWhat an odd thing in the yard sale. I hate all the plastic, but a very good deal.
DeleteSplurges are necessary sometimes. A pepperoni roll sounds really good! I enjoy wallpapering. I particularly like doing small areas, so I've wallpapered several closets inside and the pantry! Good use for remnants.
ReplyDeleteI've never done anything but a border back when the half painted walls with a border between was all the rage.
DeleteMy birthday is Tuesday and I’ve got all those coupons rolling in too. Haven’t taken advantage of any yet. Went to the Night Market last night and treated us to Birria tacos and peach Dole whip-10/10. Dropped off three bags at goodwill just as a UHaul pulled up so I took it as a sign to go peruse the inside instead of waiting. I limited myself to three dresses and a vintage Pyrex bowl for $22. Scanned all my receipts, disputed a lost package with Amazon, paid our local taxes early and filled out an exemption for DD. Donated some school supplies in exchange for volunteer hours at work. Didn’t do any grocery shopping since I’m trying to use everything up around here and we just have an abundance. May have to stop and pick up some Purex, that’s a great deal. A fair week here. JoAnn
ReplyDeleteI used a CVS coupon + my $10/month reward and a $4 expiring reward to buy some sunblock. We will be using that through probably November, so it's good to have on hand. I can also send some with Nick to college, as he's quite fair. That was my only "deal" this week. Nice job on the Purex. - Hawaii Planner
ReplyDeleteSounds like a pretty good week - apart from the vet bills but I'm sure they are well worth it! Pets are family too. I'd take advantage of those coupons. As you said, they send out hoping you'll spend more.
