Sunday Night Thoughts on Week Ahead
It was a hit steamy weekend. My son had a Friday and Sunday gig at the brewery/ pizza farm so stayed at the lake. As no one was there with him on Saturday pup and I went up for the afternoon and I got a good swim. The water hadn't caught up to the air temps so the cold water felt good on my hip and groin that I've battled with soreness. He had grilled chicken for lunch and there was plenty left so we had a nice supper before pup and I went home. I'd have stayed but can't leave the kitty alone overnight. Pup enjoyed cooling down and new again sniffs. I wish I had planned ahead to bring my (widowed) sister along. She'd have enjoyed the afternoon. She and I are planning a midweek stay there in July instead of camping.

Sunday the kitten made sure I knew she was left alone longer than she liked yesterday. I was heavily scolded. I hady my seemingly weekly pity party looking at the pictures my niece posted from my sister's family celebration weekend at their camper spot for their 50th anniversary. This is my born again Christian sister who's always throwing platitudes out and bragging about her wonderful large family, completely tone deaf, about how blessed they are. Of course I'm happy for them, just sad and yes, jealous, for me. Friday as a sibling group we're taking them out for dinner.
I picked more cherries ( already 85° at 10:00) and got a huge bundle of rhubarb from my SILs neighbor. They do nothing with their huge plants so have freely offered to anyone. I spent Sunday night pitting the cherries, measuring for another batch of jam and separated rest into two bundles for future baking. The rhubarb also was cut up and froze... some will go in a strawberry rhubarb pie but not sure what else yet. Today's pick.
The rest of my Sunday plans changed, or rather didn't get confirmed. I was going to meet my daughter to mattress shop. My daughter has been using a twin mattress and basic frame, but really wants, no needs, a decent bed. We're going to connect tomorrow or Tuesday night now instead to just find a full size box spring, mattress, and frame. She'll get it delivered as cheaper than renting a truck as long it is on a route delivery, not specially scheduled. I have full sheets she can have to start, and her existing comforter and blankets should work at least to top the bed. I'll take the small mattress to the lake, store under the queen bed in our family room, and it can be used as a makeshift bed if needed, better than the floor. The twin frame will be stored at my daughter's (hers anyway) for now.
I'll get grand pup in the morning and get him on a walk right away, maybe by the river. I think we've another day of stupid humidity before storms come. He'll be at doggie daycare Tuesday, which will be good as they have a large indoor area used for training and perfect for big dog play even when weather is bad.
I'm meeting a former coworker who just retired herself, for lunch Tuesday. She refused to go back into the office 50% time, so moved her retirement up 7 months. She's quite recluse and wanted no party, not even a simple group lunch or happy hour, but was good with me inviting her to lunch. Our paths have crossed professionally for over 25 years, the last 10 directly together, I as her boss technically, though her job was very specific and self directed. I'm happy for her. She rubbed most people the wrong way, but we had a positive relationship with mutual respect. She was given a garden center gift card from our collective team as well, so we plan on going there after lunch to browse a bit and work off lunch. The restaurant selected is nearby.
Friday is the 50th anniversary dinner for my sister and husband. Since I'll have lunch out and that, I'm going to stay home and economize the rest of the week. I got paint for the dresser/ night stand and if the humidity drops, want to tackle that. I'll watch for more yard sales this week and maybe check out the Salvation Army store for porch table options. Of course, I should do a declutter round again, useable stuff to donate before I go for a browse.
I need to do laundry tomorrow. My machine is a decent size and I find that with summer clothes being lighter, I can go a week plus with just a load of lights/whites and a load of regular which helps decrease both the water and electric bill. My son tends to do two super loads of his stuff a week, no sorting I notice. We always got a big towel load a week. He has "sweat" towels for post work out, so even though neither of us are opposed to reusing towels after showers, there's still a lot of them used. The kitchen towels are a separate small weekly load as I tend to put a squirt of Dawn, vinegar, and baking soda for extra help. Then of course sheets each week, as I find it just easier to wash and remake the bed right away. ( Yes, I only change my sheets once per week and do not iron them.) Six, sometimes as many as eight loads a week seems like a lot, but long gone are the weeks where there were two loads a day, plus an extra two to four on Saturdays when we had two teens and a toddler in the house. I'm trying to do better at air drying my clothes.
Wow, a lot of words on such a boring topic, but Sunday night thoughts aren't particularly engaging. The days now get shorter as the summer solstice has passed, but it being light well past nine will last a few weeks more. I like the light, dislike the excessive heat and humidity so early in the summer. I hope your weekend was a good one and you have a positive week ahead.
Your grand pup is so cute! Monday is my usual laundry day too. I usually have a dark load and a whites load and then either a load of towels and or kitchen laundry too. The cherries look so good, I hope you enjoy them. Very nice of your neighbor to let you have the rhubarb. I hope you enjoy your lunch with your newly retired coworker and the lunch with your siblings.
ReplyDeleteThe little white guy is my pup. Grand pup is the big black border colli that wears a tuxedo. This wasn't even my neighbor but sister in laws. So kind.
DeleteThere's just the two of us so we do laundry as and when. Or rather, husband does it as I would find it hard work. Pulmonary fibrosis slows me down considerably these days; I do grieve for the time I had better capacity but that was then and this is now. Now is okay.
ReplyDeleteI really try to have large loads. With the heat and yard work, it's been dirty stinky laundry lately. I am sorry your health gives you limitations. I guess that will come to us all and we just need to do as your doing and be ok with life.
DeleteBlazing hot again today, I put laundry in as soon as I got up to avoid peak usage hours. With the three of us here I usually do a load every other day and I admittedly have gotten very lax on sorting lol. We had so much fun swimming yesterday and catching up. I’m back to work today and dreading it. Not much on my weekly calendar than the Night Market Thursday. I think we all can relate to the tinges of jealousy where we’re happy for someone but still sad for ourselves. It’s just human nature to be flawed like that. Stay cool! JoAnn
ReplyDeleteHigh today only 82, feels almost cool after the weekend. At any rate, comfortable. This sister just is a bit overly in my face about her blessings and how much she will pray for me. Enough, I've said repeatedly.
DeleteI had to laugh about you not ironing your sheets. My mother grew up with a cleaning lady who did iron their sheets. We definitely did not have a cleaning lady and with having five kids my mother certainly didn't iron the sheets, but she did iron her pillow cases!
ReplyDeleteI just do not understand the purpose of ironing sheets. Someone explain it to me. It's not 1919 Downtown Abbey in our houses.
DeleteI have an expensive & social week coming up as well (although, I've tried to convert as many get togethers to walks/hikes as possible), but it's my last week before work starts. We paid for the cost of dS18's grad party, and so appreciate all of the time & effort my family put in with dS18 & his road trip buddies over the past few weeks.
ReplyDeleteDS18 did get a speeding ticket on the drive back yesterday. Grrr, so irritating, as we'd talked about making sure to observe the many speed changes, and adjust accordingly. He did, but not in time to avoid a very pricey ticket. It's a lesson for him, I suppose, and he will be paying for it himself. Decidedly unfrugal! - Hawaii Planner
Get those social things in while you can. It's great that so many can be be both health and frugal. What an exciting summer you'll have.

DeletePup is gorgeous- I’m glad you both had a good day at the lake …
ReplyDeleteGrief changes us . How can it not ? And it’s ok to have the range of feelings you describe- life is not fair , but you are doing the absolute best that you can for you , your children and assorted furries
I enjoy reading about the day to day of your life
Today mine would have been
Watched tennis
Had a nap
Doom scrolled
Watched a bit more tennis
Had a cup of tea

It's been a hot few days here too! I think we have one more to go and then it's supposed to cool back to the mid 80s. That's still too hot for me.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a good day at the lake and cooled down a bit. I laughed about your cat not being happy. When we had ours he always used to ignore me when I got back from being away as though scolding me for being away too long.
What a lovely harvest of cherries!
I hope you have a lovely week.
I always think your dog is so cute!
ReplyDeleteMama ironed sheets and lots of items with no ac. She said with each child, she gave up ironing something else. You really scored some great fruit. I don't think anyone around here grows anything other than a tomato plant. Well, the guy behind my neighbor has a huge garden, but I doubt he has excess.
I can take the heat, but I hate all the rain.
