May Goals Recap
![]() |
I think these aren't actually intentional flowers at my daughter's but are pretty. I'm betting someone knows them. |
May was a hard month beginning with the care then loss of my brother. Then in a blink, it seemed Memorial Day Weekend was up on us. Now, I'm sitting at the airport waiting to board a flight to Memphis for five days, well three full and two half, days with my sisters. I thought I'd do an accountability check for myself and you as my witnesses, as to if I actually accomplished anything intended in May.
Financial:
- Stay on top of getting HSA reimbursement for May insurance premium. While I sent the first reimbursement request in, nothing has been paid out yet.
- Follow-up to understand an additional post retirement benefit fee/ deposit and how I utilize this. It was related to the medical flex account but my understanding was that was done when I left employment. No answers yet and can't seem to get to the right person. I'd really like those dollars back!
- Update budget/ cash flow for the two confirmation, one graduation, and wedding gifts this month. Thanks to the timing on sub job payment and my Federal Tax return deposited, I didn't need to shift any other money around to get to June 1.
- Only committing to one sub job but if things change, may be open to a second. I actually worked two jobs in May.
Family:
- Take as many care shifts as needed. I ended up taking 6 shifts.
- Do one fun activity with each or kids collectively. My son took me to Happy Hour on the Saturday before Mother's Day and MD evening, the girls and I had appetizers and drinks on the patio. It was something at least with each of them. All three of them had very busy months so I was happy for the time I had.
Fitness:
- Lose 5 pounds Nope, not even close.
- Use the various walking, strength, eating tools blogged on Wednesdays Mediocre, but some efforts.
Personal
- Purge enough in garage to get an accessible spot for the freezerDone but not plugged in yet until I need more space.
- Donate husband's clothes, but store running shirts for future T-shirt blanket/ quilt. DAV pick up is scheduled for May 23Done
- Meet up with at least one friend (already got this one yesterday but would be good to have another).I met another former colleague who I mentored for a few years. She has gone on to do great things!
- Purge 10 items of clothing Yes!
Other
- Get raised beds set up and garden planted Just one is set up as I was less ambitious with only zucchini and peppers planted. I got a separate tomatoes and cucumber pot planted, plus lettuce in planters, and a squash and pumpkins area. Will anything grow?
- Start border project on rock area with bricks I have so far. I used the flat bricks to create a squash and pumpkins area.
Take day myself to weed a sort of garden area at the lake. I want to do this when no one else is there. I can probably do in a few hours and it checks off part of my Families contribution to spring work.Long story but something different is going to happen in the area. Some "episodes" also occurred that made me need to distance myself from being there as well. I'm just striking this goal for my own well being.- Get rooms flipped for office upstairs With my brothers final days, the funeral, and life in general, this just didn't happen. My daughter and son may tackle when I'm gone.
I knew making the list it was hit or miss. I'm glad there's some green to show for the month. I'll think about June and what might be in store.
Firstly, I want to say that I hope you have a wonderful time away!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as though you really did well for such a difficult month. There is lots more green than other colours!
I did...sitting in airport now waiting for return flight. I guess May was ok.
DeleteI think you did very well. You accomplished quite a lot, especially considering how busy and difficult the month was. Enjoy your trip. You deserve the time away and have some fun!
ReplyDeleteTime with my sisters is always good.
DeleteThose look like native common violets. They're native.
ReplyDeleteI like them a lot.
DeleteThat looks like a positive month overall, which is the main thing when reviewing checklists. No-one (except my husband!) loses weight when family stress is happening!
ReplyDeleteI must do better in June. Not happy for reverse weight loss. ( Gain)
DeleteI hope you have a wonderful trip!
ReplyDeleteYou had a good month in stressful times. Give yourself grace.
I appreciate your kind words. It was very enjoyable.
DeleteYou have certainly committed to a lot of things. Congrats on the greens!
ReplyDeleteIf there were no green it would be depressing but I'm ok with it.
DeleteI always like little volunteer flowers. My neighbor's front yard is filled with violets until she mows. I envy your Memphis trip as I have not been there in five years. It sounds like a fun trip.
ReplyDeleteHer violets sit behind an edging so shouldn't get mowed. It was fun. In the airport now to go home.
DeleteEnjoy your Memphis visit. You accomplished a great deal in May given all of the unexpectedness of your month. Setting your goals gives you "aim". Consider what you accomplished rather than focusing on what you didn't. You are many steps ahead of May 1 !!!!
ReplyDeleteAs always, take care of yourself. Hugs :-)
WY too much good food, but we walked a lot too. Yes, looking at green is encouraging.
DeleteI agree with Sharon. I think you did very well with a challenging month. Looking forward to seeing what you'd like to accomplish in June - Hawaii Planner
ReplyDeleteMe too! June will be quiet comparably, hopefully.
