Intentional May Plans

Another month is well upon us. I did a mid month run down in April a few weeks back. Not really goals per se, but things that should have been accomplished. I do need to create an actual life, not just breath air, eat, and sleep. To that end, I've been thinking about being more intentional with my days and weeks, and just maybe feel like I'm off my treadmill to no where.

For Fun:

  • Get Away Weekend- Not much, but booked with my sister's our road trip to Leinies Lodge and surrounding community.
  • Get to trivia at least one more time in the month. I went Wednesday and it was nice to be with friends and using my brain for something other than work and problems to solve. It's been too long.
  • Read book club book for May 5th, The Atomic City Girls.
For Health and Wellness (mental and physical)
  • Get knee replacement surgery scheduled officially. The schedule opens three months ahead and aiming for mid August.
  • Lose 3 pounds. The doctor would like 5 gone by surgery. I'd like at least 10, and 3 a month gets me there.
  • Continue French refresher on Duolingo
For Family
  • Help with cabin cleanup and prep- I'm not sure if this will just be Memorial Day Weekend for others, but I'm hoping one of the days between the 17th and 19th, I and anyone able to join, can get a top to bottom inside cleaning. I have no idea when anyone was last there, but it's probably been no less than two months.
  • Extra weekend with grandpup while daughter is on vacation. Get to dog park daily with him, weather permitting.
  • Support youngest and oldest with job searches. No idea what this might mean, but could be resume/cover letter review, or just moral support and encouragement.
  • Get to at least one LaCrosse, soccer, and baseball for each of the nieces/ nephews playing.
For Organization/ Planning
  • Continue purging here with minimally the following-

  1. Old paper files from basement, bedroom, and garage
  2. Which means, scheduling secure destruction/ shredding company
  3. Old light bulbs brought to reclaim/ disposal center ( large ones from bathrooms and laundry tube)
  4. Computer hutch emptied
  • Prune winter wardrobe down and store what I'm keeping.
  • Attend retirement seminar, and get specific questions answered related to severance payout for sick and vacation accrual
  • Meet with financial advisors and accountant to see if my target date for retirement is on track and any changes needed to prepare financially
For Home/ creating my retreat
  • Fence posts in, and fingers crossed, maybe even panels though date for those could be as late as June 6 if they take the full four weeks.
  • ...if the fence is up, get patio rug and furniture out.
  • Get step railing project complete.
  • More grass seed down; so much washed away with the rains this week.
  • Get flower seeds, cucumber seeds, pepper starts, and zucchini starts in planters. Get pollinator seeds and pumpkin seeds plated across side yard.
If these things get done, or even significant progress, I'll feel like some weight has been lifted of my shoulders. If anything, just putting things in writing shows me how much I do have going on.

Comments

  1. I like the idea of listing goals or to-dos or whatever we want to call them. Right now my focus is very short-sighted because of events in the next 4 weeks, but seeing your list makes me think I should expand my horizons.

    1. I've been thinking about you and hoping all goes well with your trip to Mayo.

  2. I keep a list going all the time. Otherwise, I forget what I want to do long, medium, and short term. Tommy and I need to go to a trivia night or group somewhere. I have a head full of useless trivia. I am a good Trivial Pursuit player. He is really smart and has a head full of trivia I have never even heard.

The yard at your house excites me for you, pups, and plantings. Why do they have to wait four weeks to finish?
With your experience in a workplace, I am quite sure you can help your daughters. It is surprising sometimes what young people do not know.

    1. The company has a rotation of workers and first pole s going with a crew, then the panels. I suppose they give a window of up to four weeks in case of rain, other delays, and to coordinate crews to sane areas for efficiency. It's my son and youngest daughter that are in job search mode.

  3. We both have to do lists and mark off as we get completeled or write why we didn't get it done.
More than one Amish has mentioned all they do is prepare for winter including growing a garden. Hubby said hamster on his wheel.

    1. I'm never one to critique another culture, but I'm grateful my ancestors embraced the industrial revolution that allows to not be on that survival mode hamster wheel.

  4. Number one goal for May was to move my baby home, and here she is! It was a long exhausting day but she’s all settled in. My dad’s birthday is later this month, the next Night Market is the 23rd. Just going to try to keep the house organized with an extra person and make sure she gets some home cooking and lots of fruits and veggies and hopefully enjoy the weather although the next two weeks are kinda rainy. I think May is going to be a gentle month. I’m going to enjoy myself. JoAnn

  5. It sounds like you're well on your way to creating an actual life. This is something I need to work on, now that retirement is almost upon me and my life won't revolve around work anymore.

  6. It sounds as though you are making some good plans. Maybe seeing them in writing will help with the follow-through. I know that sometimes helps with me.

    1. I'll get many done. Time and both mental and physical health sometimes cause me pause on motivation.

  7. My planner calendar is filling up quick with summer to dos & activities since I'll be retired. I've got photobooks to work on, day camps with Grands, closet cleanouts, recipes to cook, a new magazine subscription... It's good to have goals & lists. Isn't it so satisfying to do the things & mark them off the list as completed.

    1. There's so much my husband and I had on our list for his retirement. Now, tackling alone is daunting but it is satisfying when something is done.

  9. I keep a planner going most of the time. Things are fluid for the most part, but still listed. I've been home a good bit lately and need to get out among the living more than I have been. It seems the screened porch and books have been my nemesis for a bit lately.

    1. Perfectly good partners rather than nemesis in my opinion. I want to be reading more.

  10. I'm excited for you to get your new knee. I love love love both of mine. Pain free and the ability to walk 10+ miles? Priceless. Cheers to having that on your "look forward to" list!
